Water Damage Do's and Don'ts

Busted pipe? Leaking water tank? Here are some tips to do and not to do if you experience these issues.

Do:

• Remove as much water as possible by mopping
• Remove and set wet upholstery to dry
• Wipe any excess water from furniture and remove any table top items
• Place a foil barrier or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting
• Turn on A/C to ensure drying in summer
• Remove any rugs and set them out to dry
• Place any luggage in sunlight to dry
• Gather any loose items on the floor

Don't:

• Leave any wet fabrics in place and try to place items where they will quickly dry
• Leave magazines, books, or any colored items on wet floor surfaces
• Use your vacuum to remove excess water
• Use any appliances while standing on wet floors
• Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet
• Go into rooms the ceiling is sagging from water damage
